Unlike the MCG and SCG venue guides we have released, much of the information from Adelaide is straightforward. They don't hide anything, and in that way, this one is comparable to Optus.
Simply put, Adelaide's batting surface is among the best in the world, let alone Australia.
Expect a lot of runs, especially in boundaries.
As we stated in the Perth Guide, when teams understand the general nature of the deck, they can take advantage of the good batting conditions on offer and set an above par score to make the chasing teams crumble under pressure, resulting in decks like Perth and Adelaide becoming better for batting first.
Keep in mind, though, that for Adelaide to be a good batting first deck, batters must be proactive. If they go the traditional route of preparing for a late launch, they risk falling short or collapsing under pressure from not being able to clear the long straight boundaries. The average first innings score of 178 does tell a tale, after all.
Take note of how the average RPB section moves from green to yellow as the game progresses, indicating that Adelaide is no different than any other ground by the time the slog overs arrive, but it is in the first two phases that you can really make a difference.
The average RPB and average wickets lost stats in the powerplay also show that this is one of the easiest venues for openers to get started.
Key to success for bowling units: Bowling full and bringing the long straight boundaries into play
The bowling type that is most likely to be effective: Yorker & full-length variation specialists and high-quality wrist spin
The bowling type that is most likely to be ineffective: Finger spin and one-dimensional hard length bowlers
The batting type that is most likely to be effective: Any high-quality opening batter and good players of wrist spin in the middle order, particularly if they are left-handed.
The batting type that is most likely to be ineffective: Middle order batters who lack raw power to muscle through long straight boundaries
